The marquee that is ‘The Pavilion at LOWE’ was custom designed and built in Kim’s hometown of Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, to the specifications of Kim’s immaculate eye. Once here in Mudgee, the marquee was constructed and installed by the talented teams of Ben Kubowicz and Clancy Currie. Now standing proud between Lowe Wines cellar door and the Zin House restaurant ‘The Pav’ (for short) enjoys views over the Tinja property dam, featuring Ben’s newly constructed jetty, the Lowe vineyards and further onto the surrounding Mudgee hills.
Showcasing the best of the surrounds, the marquee features a part see-through roof allowing you to feel under the stars while staying in the comforts of the indoors. The side walls slide open allowing the interior space to flow down to the lawns below. Seating up to 200 people for sit down dinners and up to 250 for cocktail, The Pav is fully customisable for the occasion. Furnished with Kim’s eclectic collection of antiques, favourite rugs and a 100 y/o baby grand piano the space combines the best of old and new. The marquee is fixed with a full kitchen, bathroom facilities and open plan seating.
Enjoy this space for our classic Sunday Roast lunch, or bring your own spin on things for weddings and functions.
About the Chef and the Winemaker
Kim and David have a saying ‘If you promise not to cook, I promise not to make wine’. And that’s the promise that keeps everyone with the food and wine we love.
Kim Currie has been cooking professionally for over 35 years and comes from a family of chefs. Having championed NSW regional dining and food for more than three decades, local produce and producers have always been a central focus. This focus is embodied in her renowned regional food garden and restaurant Zin House, where Kim produces food that tastes of where we live, prepared from scratch using classic techniques.
The Pavilion provides another avenue for people to enjoy the comforts of regional food done classically, as Kim showcases her years of catering skills in style. Having catered her first wedding in the 80’s, during her long career hundreds of couples have entrusted Kim with food on their wedding day, and hundreds more for their events and parties.
While Kim has catered in paddocks, tents, trucks and domestic kitchens, the facilities at The Pavilion allow the team to deliver consistent, high quality food accompanied by beautiful surroundings. Kim’s food combines her many years of catering and restaurant experience with her insistence on high quality, generosity and timeless dishes that are flavour driven.
David Lowe has only ever wanted to be a winemaker, and to this day, that is what he does. Having helped his father plant the first vines on the historic Tinja property in ‘73, David went on to forge his own name in the winemaking industry while working under some of the greats in the Hunter Valley. Moving back to Mudgee David completed his first vintage as CEO and head winemaker of Lowe Wines in the newly constructed Lowes winery in 2000.
Now making the wines we all know and love from these very vines, David matches Kim’s philosophy of regionality and quality, using organics and biodynamics to produce the very best wines he can.
